1 Please introduce the company (brand).

Lowrit Collective is a refurbishing repurposing studio. Repurposing is the work of finding new objectives in abandoned things and connecting meaning. Currently, Lowrit develops materials that are inadvertently discarded, such as plastic waste, and designs and manufactures furniture based on its own materials.

2 How did you start the brand? If you have an interesting story, please share. 

Lowrit means low light, low light. It is a name that means finding meaning and use in things that are hard to see and things that can be passed over inadvertently. I like the unique atmosphere of antique, vintage, and secondhand products. The material of recycled plastic felt very appealing to me. There is a preconceived notion that plastics are mass-produced consumables, but handmade plastics can also be made, and due to the nature of recycling, like vintage products, they have the characteristic of being unique. Plastic waste is a problem, but I was more curious and interested in implementing various designs with this interesting recycled material.

3 Please introduce a new product you are making or your most recent product.

1. The Anchant Pods
The angular pod is characterized by an atypical form that looks like an ancient artifact, inspired by the nature of plastic that can be used for 500 years. We are preparing a product that can produce a large amount of art pieces by modifying the design that was made with art pieces. It goes well with small Ikebana and bonsai because it is a design that stands out in formative features such as ceramics.
2. VECCA Furniture Series
They are pieces of furniture that use our materials, mixing biomass with plastic waste materials, and two types of stools and benches will be introduced at the DDP launch hall. VECCA's design was inspired by ancient megalithic structures. I wanted to include the permanence of the dolmen in the design. The silhouette of the U-shaped bridge, which is a feature of the series, is a modern reinterpretation of Dolmen structure and ancient Greek architecture.

4 For the people visiting the launch hall, please share the main parts of the booth and the concept of the exhibition.

We plan to decorate the space so that you can imagine and draw what the product will look like in your daily life. As Lowrit showcases its material base design, we will display a variety of materials and colors so that visitors can fully experience Lowrit's material to see and feel it to their heart’s content.
In addition, we will donate a certain portion of the sales made from the official DDP store during the exhibition to environmental organizations, so if you are interested in Lowrit's products, please stop by the DDP Launch Hall.

5 Is there a reason why you decided to participate in the design launch fair? What are you expecting from the fair?

I really wanted to participate in the DDP design fair because it is an iconic design event. In particular, I decided to participate in the design launching hall because I thought I could introduce new furniture, lighting, and living design products and show the wide range of the mood and values of Lowrit in order to help visitors imagine their lifestyle.

6 Please tell us about the direction that you want to take your brand in going forward.

The theme of this DDP design fair is "Worthwhile Companion." As a collective, we are accompanied by members with strong personalities, and broadly, we have partners who recycle waste resources and small business partners who participate in the donation of small pieces of plastic. We will continue to accompany you and continue to show you our identity, which may seem unfamiliar to many as a material-based design studio and a refurbishing studio.
