Traditional window patterns applied to a side table
2021-09-28769

Korean traditional window patterns are used for lighting and doors these days. What would it be like to create a piece of furniture based on the concept of Korean traditional window patterns? Designer Seungjun Kim and PIAZ CEO Bokyung Jun applied the concept of Korean traditional window patterns, which are usually used for doors and windows, to a side table. If you look at a window, it is composed of lines and planes and looks like a flat surface. In order to apply Korean traditional window patterns to a side table, we designed the window patterns in a three-dimensional form, instead of a two-dimensional plane, to give a different feeling from the existing windows. The traditional lattice pattern is designed in curves rather than straight lines which make it look three-dimensional and more dynamic.

Designer Seungjun Kim said that since he was matched with a maker with a similar design style, he was able to achieve a satisfying result and learn design approaches he had never thought of before and things to consider during production. He said it was a good opportunity to learn the maker’s know-how, such as things that should be modified or added for mass production.

PIAZ CEO Bokyung Jun said that she was able to get a lot of inspiration from the designer’s new perspective toward design. She added, “Although we both pursue Korean traditional designs, we had different backgrounds and thoughts so we tried to find the common ground by communicating with each other.”
