Unroll Surface: Household goods that increase the sustainability of plastic

Tell us about your company (brand).

Unroll Surface means to unfold the surface to see the material underneath. It is a brand that researches material sustainability, focusing on alternative plastic materials, and quickly develops them into design products. All products are made from biomaterials and recycled plastics without petroleum-based plastics. By changing the materials in our daily lives, we are spreading a 'sustainable lifestyle' and envisioning a better future through it.

Why did you focus on plastic as a material?

It's true that it's challenging to prioritize and focus on a material that is often considered of lower value in product service. For our first product, a tumbler, it took us a long time to develop because we couldn't get the shape and properties we wanted. Nevertheless, we believe that our brand philosophy of prioritizing materials will have a positive impact on society.

What are some of your recent products that you hope will have a positive impact?

In the first half of this year, we have been working on some meaningful collaborative projects with a few companies, which will be released as new products in the second half of the year. We're excited to see the response to our newest product, which is made from upcycled aluminum, going beyond the alternative plastic materials we've been working with.

In this way, we will continue to uphold the brand's philosophy of sustainable living. Based on this, we will continue to refine our philosophy as we increase the number of products and consumer touch points.

I'm also looking forward to the theme hall, which is created in collaboration with other companies.

The exhibition concept aims to minimize carbon emissions, i.e. to be carbon neutral. The exhibition tables and shelves, which are essential for the exhibition, will be made in collaboration with the construction leasing company, Seongji Steel, so that they can be used as original materials again after the exhibition. In addition, a system that allows visitors to measure carbon by themselves will be organized in collaboration with TomorrowUse to create an exhibition space where visitors can experience sustainability, not just products.

What are you hoping to get out of the DDP Design Launching Fair?

We participated in DDP Design Launching Fair last year and had a positive experience gaining good feedback. As it is the largest design exhibition in Seoul, I think the biggest advantage is being able to meet and interact directly with a large number of visitors. We are looking forward to the same this year and hope that it will be a great time to introduce our brand to more people and connect with them.
