A unique name that begs to be explored further.

LOWLIT COLLECTIVE, with the philosophy of "putting heart into what we pass by," is a repurposing studio that repurposes things for other purposes and uses. Repurposing is the process of finding a new purpose in discarded things and connecting them with meaning, and we design and make furniture based on our own materials, including waste plastics.

What inspired you to create this unique brand?

I was fascinated by the unique vibe of antique, vintage, and second-hand products and recycled plastic materials, which led to my curiosity and interest in creating different designs with recycled materials, and that led to the creation of a studio. The name LOWLIT reflects the intention and desire to find meaning and use in things that are not seen and things that can be overlooked.

Can you tell us about your latest product that explores new uses?

The Ancient Pot is inspired by the properties of plastic, which can last for 500 years, and features an atypical hand-made sculpture that looks like an ancient artifact. We have modified the design that was created as an art piece and are preparing it as a product that can be produced in large quantities. Since the design has a distinctive ceramic-like sculptural feature, it goes well with small flower arrangements and bonsai. The VECCA furniture series, which will be presented at the theme hall of the DDP Design Launching Fair, is furniture that utilizes our own material made from plastic waste mixed with biomass. VECCA's design is inspired by ancient megalithic structures, and the silhouette of the series' signature U-shaped legs is a modern reinterpretation of dolmen structures and ancient Greek architecture.

LOWLIT is doing great, but what's next?

The theme of this year's DDP Design Launching Fair is 'Valuable Partnership', and as a collective, we are accompanied by a small group of unique members, and a large group of small business partners who participate in recycling waste materials and donate small pieces of plastic. We hope to continue to showcase our identity as a material-based design studio and repurposing studio, which may be unfamiliar to many people.

What are some of the highlights of your booth and your exhibition concept?

As we are showcasing material-based design, we will display a variety of materials and colors so that visitors can fully experience our materials and interact with them to their heart's content. This will allow them to imagine and envision what the products will look like in their daily lives. In addition, we will donate a portion of the sales from purchases made during the exhibition to environmental organizations.
