It is a product that explicitly expresses a simple structure shaped after “ㅁ” (meeum), the fifth consonant of Hangeul. The simplicity of this intuitive form arouses the curiosity of users. The users are able to find answers to questions and meanings about the functions on their own by actively experiencing the product. The functional key point of MEEUM is to allow users to recognize how they view the chair with a certain purpose and use the backrest in various ways according to their purpose and action. It is a chair that transforms according to the action of users in order that they can spend time on the chair with their desired purpose and posture.

Maker oddball

“My biggest concern during the product design process was the details of the backrest. I put a lot of thought into the angle, width and height of the backrest, and I was able to make the end result through a mock-up that reflected those concerns. While designing our collaborative product, I kept saying this to the designer: “People don’t see furniture in a complicated way. Therefore, it should be intuitive and simple.” We focused on this point and tried to add fun elements to the design.”

“I wanted to create a product in a simple form that arouses curiosity and allows the user to find and experience various purposes and meanings in it. Even though each of us had a clear role as a maker and a designer, we worked together based upon various suggestions and discussions without boundaries. We did not have any difficulty in reaching a consensus. I’ve learned a lot through new directions and ideas by overcoming the stubbornness and limitations I had from my own projects.”
