Inspired by the state of selflessness, a concept described in Zhuangzi's Butterfly Dream, the Dive Chair and Dive Lamp lead the user to the moment of immersion. When you pick up a book hanging over the handle of the Dive Lamp and tilt the light to illuminate the Dive Chair, the moment you sit on the chair, reality becomes murky like stagnant water, and boundaries become blurred. The Dive Series, which perfectly embodies that very moment in a visual way, allow you to experience the process of learning and growth in an active way, in contrast to existing teaching tools, which are standardized according to the passive teaching method.

“I decided to participate in the DDP Design Fair again because it made me realize that collaborations are very helpful in creating experimental results, such as crossing the boundaries between materials or applying new processes. The Dive Series are pieces of furniture that visually express the moment of immersion. I expressed the experience of diving deep into something, inspired by a swimming pool ladder. Based on the collaboration with Hansung School Furniture, which produces educational furniture for educational facilities, the Dive Series were created by connecting metal frames and panels made from small plastic pieces that cannot be recycled. I felt Hansung School Furniture was the best partner to create high-quality collaboration since it not only has a manufacturing process for educational furniture, but also a group of experts who have paid close attention to the voices and experiences from the education field.”

“Since last year, I have participated in the DDP Design Fair two years in a row to explore new educational furniture with a focus on sustainability. The lamp with a varying height depending on the book hanging over the handle and the chair that allows the user to sit deeply along the waves guide the reader into the world inside the book as if diving deep below the water surface.

New methods and technologies, such as the combination of metal frames and panels made from small plastic pieces that cannot be recycled or the rotational movement of the lighting structure, have been developed and applied to enhance the product quality. During the process of design and production, we were able to understand each other’s intentions and circumstances and find solutions after several compromises and discussions.”
