These are mirrors designed based on the keyword “Inverse”. After cutting steel and stone materials, which have different properties, the mirrors were created by switching places with each other. Two mirrors made of opposite materials have the same appearance but different characteristics, so they have a special, unusual and novel fun element. “Indian Black” marble was used to provide a visual contrast with the reflective mirror. The mirrors expand the space depending on where they are placed, and sometimes they feature a unique sense of aesthetics as decorative objects.

“Since our maker was also a designer who runs a furniture and home interior studio, he was well aware of stone materials I have never used before. We tried to focus on sharing and communicating knowledge that we were both well aware of. The collaboration process went pretty well since we were both designers. At first, we tried to create a design based on upcycling with discarded stones, but we were not able to do this due to the tight deadline. I plan to do more design research based on the latest trends so that I can come up with a reasonable design that finds balance between the material and the processing method. I participated in the 2022 DDP Design Fair for the first time, and I thought it was a great opportunity to create and showcase a good product with a like-minded partner. Also, I became more interested in the fair because other designers who participated earlier said good things about the fair.”

“We cut different steel and stone materials and switched places with each other. Two mirrors made of contrasting materials look the same but have different characteristics. We wanted to use “Indian Black” marble to provide a visual contrast with the reflective mirror, so we focused on placing iron on stone and stone on iron without any gap through inlay technique. After several tests, we were able to deliver end results as planned without any error. As people spend more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their interest in design products has increased. I wanted to make a product that exists as a decorative object in the space but stays faithful to its function as a mirror. Everything went more smoothly than when I was working alone thanks to the close collaboration with the designer.”
