A Drifting Star (A & B)
Countless stars are constantly navigating and heading somewhere in the universe. At a micro level, the stars seem to make a purposeful and meaningful movement, but from an unfathomable cosmic scale, they are nothing more than a dust being lost and drifting in the eternal universe. A star drifting through the darkness of space seems similar to humans. Like humans, the drifting star steadily moves forward all alone based on solid gravity. The lines extending from the sphere — the core of the design — are our past, present and future, and symbolize the people, emotions, and relationships we have been through. The extended board serves as a shelf, offering usability and meaning.

A lot of effort was put into this project to find the most ideal manufacturing process for creating a form that has never existed before. I talked a lot with the designer about the production time, production cost and ease of installation, taking not only prototype production into consideration, but mass production as well.

There were many twists and turns along the way, but we could easily address difficult challenges through the collaboration with OUTRO. Whenever we faced a difficulty in production, things we had never thought of during the design stage, he helped us move to a good direction, so I made it all the way through production without losing the design direction I was trying to deliver.
