Styling the powder room with UHPC

One example that shows the DDP Design Fair’s role of turning the designer’s brilliant idea into reality as a creative factory will be the collaboration between RKRN and Studio Miicon, which used concrete to create alternatives to storage box and pottery with modular units.

RKNA and Studio Miicon designed three objects for the powder room with metal and Miicon's UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete), which is durable enough to be called super concrete and hard to believe that it is made of concrete due to its beautiful finishing. Blocks that can be stacked and used as a temporary wall, objects in a square cylinder shape where you can store things and a sink where you can see the water flow. Concrete serves as a frame so you can use the objects for different functions by combining it with various metal accessories. They can be used as a storage box, flower pot or storage bin. Users can arrange objects as they like according to their lifestyle and display them in different styles.

For RKRN, which specializes in modular furniture and assembly methods, Miicon’s UHPC technology was a breakthrough since RKRN was having trouble with the load-bearing capacity and feeling the limits resulting from materials. This collaboration allowed RKRN to have a more conceptual design and improved usability. For Miicon, a leading company in the concrete design industry, this collaboration served as an opportunity to further enhance the understanding toward space and products. Concrete modules suggested by RKRN could maximize the usability compared to the existing modules even by adding a minimum number of accessories.
