A candle that resembles a landscape

Collaboration: Drawing Candle and Hye Min Kim
2023-10-3159

There are many famous mountains in Korea, but even Koreans are not familiar with their beauty. In the state where there are no souvenirs to remember visiting the mountains, Drawing Candle and designer Kim Hye-min created a candle that allows people to recognize the features of each mountain at a glance by capturing the actual appearance and summits of Seoul's four famous mountains, Gwanaksan, Bukhansan, Suraksan, and Dobongsan. The cross-sectional candles, which look like mountain cutouts, can be stacked on top of each other to create the illusion of mountain watercolors, making them an object that can reimagine a space in their own right. When lit, the candle melts down to resemble a stream of water flowing down a mountain valley, and when extinguished to produce smoke, it resembles a cloud that has settled, captivating the viewer not only with its scent but also visually.

Maker Drawing Candle

"Together with designer Hye Min Kim, we created an oriental-inspired product that I hadn't tried before. I was able to experience a lot of new things from the way we made the prototype to the finalization of the product. We tried to capture the beauty of the candle as well as its use."

Designer Hye Min Kim

"It was a lot of trial and error from design to production, but it was a good time to share a lot of stories and thoughts with the maker. I was able to learn about the process of going through many revisions until the product I designed became a prototype, and I was able to learn how to communicate through the experience of working with multiple people."
